Glanbia are the latest big name brand to announce an extension of its association with Irish sport through sponsorship of Kilkenny GAA at all levels.

The deal will now run for another three years and will see the Avonmore logo worn on all Kilkenny shirts and the Glanbia corporate logo appearing on training gear.

“Glanbia are delighted to announce our new 3 year sponsorship deal with Kilkenny,” said Brian Phelan, CEO of Glanbia Global Ingredients.

“Our sponsorship of Kilkenny is one of the longest running GAA partnerships as well as being one of the most successful.”

“The sponsorship is an ideal fit for Glanbia with nutrition at our core and specifically for Ireland’s number 1 milk brand, Avonmore.”

The extension means that the partnership will now run for at least a quarter of a century and is up their alongside Allianz as one of the longest running Irish sponsorships.

Avonmore also have a partnership with the Gaelic Players Association whereby a cut of all sales of Avonmore Protein Milk goes towards a player welfare fund.  That explains the presence of oversized image of Dublin footballer Paul Flynn at the launch of the extension to the sponsorship though it is appropriate this year as Dublin will be playing a Leinster Championship match at Nolan Park.

Glanbia and the Avonmore brand were also partners of the Great Pink Run in Dublin last year, promoting the benefits of milk and dairy products as part of a nutritious diet.

The promotion of Glanbia’s global sports nutrition supplements has yet to reach Ireland to the same level with most promotion in that space taking place in the developing world.  In recent years it has run nutrition workshops and education courses in China, India and the Philippines.
