We are blessed in Ireland with the talent of our sports photographers from Sportsfile and Inpho and this has been recognised with a prestigious international prize for Sportsfile’s Brendan Moran.
He has won First Prize in the Sports Action category of the Picture of the Year International competition run by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri.
The competition is in its 77th year and is rated one of the most prestigious in the world.
Brendan captured his Award for the shot above of Tipperary hurler John McGrath looking to burst through the Kilkenny defence in last year’s All Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park.
It is a brilliant shot, one of many that he has produced through his career and the recognition is well deserved.
He beat off stiff competition from US photographers John McDonnell of the Washington Post, Scott Serio and Jeff Pachoud of AFP whose images can be seen below.
