It’s the biggest game in the history of the Irish Women’s National Team with Germany coming to Tallaght and a place in the Euro Finals in England in 2022 on the line.

Germany are one of the best teams in the world and won the return fixture 3-0 in September, but over the course of 90 minutes, anything is possible.

Ireland need to match what Ukraine do against group minnow Montenegro, which likely means a win, in order o secure a place in the play-offs to get to England 2021 which has now been pushed back a year due to Covid.

The game will be on RTÉ2 with a 5 PM kick-off and should be required viewing as part of homework for kids tonight.

10 schools from seven different counties got their crayons and paintbrushes out last week to provide some colourful messages to motivate Vera Pauw’s team.

The WNT squad used their profile in the build-up to the game to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer and encourage school kids to write poetry, and this saw them on the receiving end of some extraordinary support.

Over 100 pieces of artwork were sent through for the team and each one was stuck to the walls of the tunnel area inside Tallaght Stadium so that the Ireland players would see them upon arrival.

Germany have won the Euro’s eight times in total and are ranked number two in the world behind the USA. They have only lost once in their last 26 games, in the World Cup Quarter Final in 2019, but they have long since secured qualification.

Let us hope and cheer for the Girls in Green.
