Dublin’s Lyndsey Davey and Armagh’s Aimee Mackin were on hand to officially launch the coverage of the AIG/LGFA 2020 teams of the 2020 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championship yesterday.

Peil na mBan – Foirne na Bliana in association with AIG on TG4 will be broadcast live on Saturday, February 27th from 7.15 pm.

Mackin is nominated for the Player of the Year award – the top individual accolade in the game as well as being on the shortlist for the AIG Goal of the Year.

It will make a nice break from lockdown to remember the triumphs of last year though Mackin has at least had a few training partners in her back garden with her sister and two brothers all playing at Inter-County Level.

“We’re all at home, we’re all keeping each other on our toes and we each have our own training programmes. There might be an occasional two-a-side game against each other.”

“Obviously, we thought we were going to be back sooner than now but unfortunately, we can’t.”

“We just have to hold out and wait for another wee while.”

Davey played her part as the Dubs won the All-Ireland title for the fourth year in-a-row last year.

She briefly considered a trip to Australia but decided to remain and focus on her career with the Dublin Fire Brigade and her training as a paramedic.

She has also been volunteering with the RNLI near her Skerries home so it has been a busy winter.

Saturday’s programme will reveal the 2020 Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teams of the Championship.

In addition, the 2020 TG4 Players’ Player of the Year award winners will be announced, while the 2020 AIG Cúl na Bliana (Goal of the Year) winner will be revealed.

“AIG are proud to partner with TG4 and LFGA to help showcase the 2020 Teams of the Championship and the AIG Goal of the Year,” said AIG General Manager in Ireland, Aidan Connaughton.

“We have always been passionate supporters of diversity, equity and inclusion, backing women’s sport for a number of years. We’re looking forward to Saturday’s show on TG4 when a national audience will get to witness great skills, talented athletes and teams being recognised for their accomplishments across the 2020 season.”
