Drogheda United has announced the appointment of Rían Wogan as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Wogan joins Drogheda United after a successful tenure as Commercial Director at Shamrock Rovers FC, where he played a key role in driving the club’s commercial growth, securing strategic partnerships, and enhancing fan engagement.

His experience in football operations, strategic planning, and revenue generation will be instrumental in guiding Drogheda United into an exciting new chapter.

In 2021 Wogan was named as one of the Sport for Business PwC 30 Under 30 for that year,

Wogan has a connection to Drogheda United, having previously served as Manager of the U17 team in 2019 and 2020. He has a clear passion for both the club and the League of Ireland making him a great signing.

On his desk as he starts the new role will be ambition towards expanding commercial partnerships, stadium offerings, and revenue streams to secure the club’s long-term financial stability as well as strengthening ties with supporters, local schools, and grassroots clubs, ensuring Drogheda United remains a club for the community.

There will also be the matter of supporting the great start to the season in the SSE Airtricity men’s Premier Division and preparing for a European campaign after last season’s Sports Direct FAI Cup triumph.

“Drogheda United is a club with immense potential, both on the footballing side and as a pillar of the local community,” he said.

“I am thrilled to take on this role at such a pivotal moment. My focus will be on ensuring the club builds on the momentum of 2024, engages supporters new and old, and implements the right structures to secure long-term success. Football has the power to bring people together, and I believe Drogheda United can be a model club both on and off the pitch.”

“Rian’s appointment marks a significant step forward for the club,” added Drogheda United Executive Director Wesley Hill.

“His experience in football administration, his deep understanding of the League of Ireland, and his passion to grow this club make him the perfect choice to lead us into the future. We are excited to work with him to build a sustainable and competitive club.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

We did a great session for the Business community with the directors of the Trivela Group, Drogheda’s owners in advance of last season’s Sports Direct FAI Cup Final.  They are smart guys with ambition for the club and it is great to see this appointment from among our 30 Under 30 alumni.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Drogheda could go top of the League with a win at Tolka Park tonight.  Rían will feature in a catch up on alumni from previous years next week as we build towards this year’s Sport for Business 30 Under 30 starting on March 18th.
