
Vaughan is to be replaced by Debbie Jevans who has been Director of Sport at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and who was formerly with the International Tennis Federation.
The appointment of Jevans was welcomed by the International Rugby Board (IRB), which owns the rights to rugby’s showpiece event through Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL).
“The successful delivery of one of the world’s largest sporting events is founded on a clear vision, partnership, teamwork and strong leadership,” said Bernard Lapasset of the International Rugby Board in a statement welcoming the appointment.
“As a driving force behind the exceptional London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Debbie certainly possesses all the necessary attributes to drive the delivery of what promises to be a special tournament.”
Paul Deighton, the CEO of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games was yesterday appointed as Commercial Secretary to the UK Treasury with responsibility for economic delivery.
