Ireland is a Rugby nation boasting success at every level and the reigning two time RBS 6 Nations Champions. It’s all about Rugby Union though with very little support for what was once the professional offshoot of Rugby League.
Thomond Park did host a match in the Rugby League World Cup when Australia were the visitors in 2013 but it is very much the poor relation when it comes to popular support.
They are willing to try though and nestled amid the regular offers for restaurants, beauty treatments and tooth whitening this morning was a Groupon offer to see Ireland take on Belgium in a friendly match at the Carlisle Grounds in Bray next month.
Tickets are only €5 with kids going free and we hope they succeed in reaching out to a new audience for a sporting day out.
The Ireland team is sponsored by McGettigans, also the main commercial partners of Bray Wanderers soccer.
