The new RBS 6 Nations You Tube Channel has clocked up over one million views during the first three weekends of the season, suggesting there is a strong market for online viewing.
30,000 individuals have subscribed to the channel which offers highlights, match round ups, preview and interview material before, during and after matches.
The most popular single video on the channel so far was the highlights package from Italy’s shock win over France on the opening weekend.  This is the only one so far to break six figures with 106,034 views recorded so far this morning.
Simon Zebo’s try against Wales is the second most viewed with 83,000 views, followed by the highlights of the Ireland Wales game at the Millennium Stadium, and the highlights of the Calcutta Cup game between England and Scotland.
Ireland’s viewing figures have declined with each performance, falling to 36,000 for the England game and 24,000 so far for the match against Scotland last weekend.
“We are delighted to have reached such a huge number of views after such a short time and only half way through the 2013 RBS 6 Nations championship,” said John Feehan, RBS 6 Nations Chief Executive. “We are looking forward to building on this momentum through to the conclusion of this year’s championship and also into future years.”
The number is still small and the quality lower than that which is available through main broadcast partners like RTE and the BBC but it does provide an additional outlet for the sport, for fans who were at matches and want to catch up and for sponsors who have a ready made and acceptable outlet for more commercial video content.
Five of the top 20 programmes on RTE during 2012 were matches from the RBS Six Nations and the station last year signed a deal which ensures live coverage of the Championships through until 2017.
