There were no medals in the end but Team Ireland at the European Indoor Athletics Championships did still produce three top 6 placings and three more top ten finishes.
Darragh McElhinney came 4th in the 3000m, Sarah Lavin finished 6th in the 60m hurdles, and the women’s 4x400m team came fifth on the final day of competition in Istanbul.
McIlhenney’s performance saw him score a personal best in his first major final while this was Lavin’s third in the past 12 months.
Earlier in the weekend Kate O’Connor finished ninth in the Pentathlon, just missing out on her personal best in the event.
Luke McCann ran 10th in a high-class Men’s 1,500 metre final.
The attention for Team Ireland athletics now switches to the United States and Albuquerque next weekend when Rhasidat Adeleke will run in the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Finals.
The European Games take place in Poland in June and then the World Athletics Championships will take place in August.
