Each Friday, we highlight eight great sporting events taking place around the country.  They span all four codes of Gaelic games, as well as Golf, Athletics and Cycling.  We will be attending numbers 1 and 4 this Saturday, but taking a keen interest in them all, and hopefully, you will find something among them to excite you.

 

1. Cork v Galway Hurling, with Waterford v Kilkenny Camogie

Saturday, July 4th – Croke Park, Dublin – 1 pm and 3.30 pm

The first of the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals brings Cork and Galway to Croke Park in what should be one of the defining games of the summer. It is part of a high-profile double-header, with Waterford and Kilkenny opening the afternoon in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship quarter-final at 1pm before the hurling semi-final throws in at 3.30 pm.

2. Clare v Limerick Hurling, with Tipperary v Clare Camogie

Sunday, July 5th – Croke Park, Dublin – 1.30 pm and 4 pm

Sunday brings another heavyweight Munster collision to headquarters as Clare and Limerick meet for a place in the All-Ireland Hurling Final. The fixture is paired with the second senior camogie quarter-final, Tipperary against Clare at 1.30 pm, giving Croke Park another double-header with major championship consequence across both codes.

3. Cork v Tyrone – Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Final

Sunday, July 5th – Cedral St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge – 2 pm

An All-Ireland final earns its place in the weekend list, with Cork and Tyrone meeting in the Electric Ireland Minor Football decider. Newbridge is the venue for one of the key underage occasions of the Gaelic football year, offering the next generation a national stage and another strong county contest in a packed championship weekend.

4. Dublin v Cork – TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Quarter-Final

Saturday, July 4th – Parnell Park, Dublin – 7.30 pm

The defending champions, Dublin, face Cork in the last of Saturday’s TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship quarter-finals. Parnell Park under lights gives this one a strong local feel, with Dublin aiming to keep their title defence moving and Cork looking to reassert themselves at the business end of the championship.

5. Galway v Mayo – TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Quarter-Final

Sunday, July 5th – Tuam Stadium, Galway – 5.45 pm

One of the great Connacht rivalries gets a national championship setting on Sunday evening as Galway host Mayo at Tuam Stadium. The late throw-in gives the weekend a strong western finale, with both counties eyeing a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals.

6. Arnold Palmer Cup

Friday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 5th – Tralee Golf Links, Co Kerry

Tralee Golf Links hosts the 30th Arnold Palmer Cup, bringing many of the world’s best collegiate golfers to one of Ireland’s most spectacular championship links. The Ryder Cup-style event runs across three days and gives Irish golf a valuable global showcase from one of the country’s most recognisable coastal venues.

7. 123.ie National U20 & U23 Athletics Championships

Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th – Tullamore, Co Offaly

Tullamore is the venue for the 123.ie National U20 and U23 Championships across both days of the weekend, with the National Senior 10,000m Championships also listed for Sunday. It is an important platform for the next generation of Irish athletics talent and a key staging post in the summer track and field calendar.

8. Cycling Ireland BMX National Championships

Sunday, July 5th – Lucan BMX, Dublin

The BMX National Championships bring a different energy to the weekend, with Lucan BMX hosting the national title action on Sunday. It adds an urban, high-speed and youth-focused dimension to a weekend otherwise dominated by championship field sports, and is a strong reminder of the breadth of competitive cycling now active across Ireland.
