Kellie Harrington has announced a new three-year partnership with Spar, running all the way to the Paris Olympic Games of 2024.
The Olympic Gold medallist spoke today of her sense of relief that the Amateur Women’s Boxing World Championships have been delayed giving her more time to recover from what has been a busy period.
“I’ll be 32 next month and I’m not getting any younger. Recovery is so important and having that extra time for me to do that now will be a benefit.”
“We only had the news confirmed coming back from a recent camp, and while it is tough on the girls who were getting ready to peak I have to say I was not upset by it.”
The Championships were to have been held in Istanbul next month but have now been pushed back until March 2022.
To celebrate the new commercial partnership, Harrington also launched the SPAR Christmas Community Fund.
The initiative will see SPAR acknowledge and reward 10 local community mentors by giving them the opportunity to win €1,000 each for their local club or community group.
“SPAR have a presence in every community around Ireland and the importance of community is something that I am very passionate about and really resonates with me,” said Harrington.
“The SPAR Christmas Community Fund is a great initiative and I am pleased to be associated with it. I look forward to seeing the local hero nominations that will be entered and hearing each inspiring story.”
“Kellie is one of Ireland’s most successful and inspiring athletes,” added SPAR Commercial Director Colin Donnelly.
“The fantastic scenes of celebration in Kellie’s community this summer after her gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Games were special and Kellie truly embodies what community is all about.”
“We are so pleased to have her here with us today, supporting the new SPAR Christmas Community Fund, which shines a light on and rewards local community heroes. We look forward to working with and supporting Kellie over the course of the next three years.”
“A powerful and influential network of information and collaboration”
