Pat Spillane has been inducted into the Texaco All Stars Hall of Fame.
The Kerry football legend and controversial RTE pundit received his accolade at the 54th presentation of the Teaxaco All Star awards at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin last night.
Spillane won two All Star awards as a player in 1978 and 1986.
The All Star awards have been running now for 54 years having been sparked as an idea when Texaco staff went to the movies in Dublin to see Kirk Douglas in a movie called the Champion.  That had a presentation ceremony and they thought, ‘why not?’ The rest is history.
Winners of the awards for individual sports last night included John Joe Nevin in boxing, Kevin O’Brien in cricket, Alan Brogan in football, Michael Fennelly in hurling, Richard Dunne in soccer, Willie Mullins in horse racing, Darren Clarke in golf, Sycerika McMahon in swimming and Sean O’Brien in rugby.
Well done to them all and well done Texaco.
