The Sport Ireland Campus is generally a hive of activity but perhaps especially so this week when the National Indoor Arena was the host venue for Sport Ireland’s Annual Sport Development Conference.

With almost 300 development staff from across the National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships sector attending the conference, this year’s event was a roaring success.

This year’s theme focused on Sport for Social Good and the Power of Sport provided impactful talks from Paula Phelan, a career coach with Traverso Coaching, which guides attendees on how to overcome the challenges of career development in sport; Sport against Racism Ireland (SARI) who highlighted ways of addressing unconscious bias; and a Her Moves session exploring the expanding creative and innovative potential of the programme.

This year also provided great insight into storytelling with 6 development officers from LSPs and NGBs sharing personal true stories inspired by the theme of the conference.

Working with Dublin Story Slam, the first three development officers including Ian Farrell from Fingal County Council delivered funny, profound, sometimes shocking and inspirational stories about the transformational power of sports on them and their communities.

This year’s day one panel was an informative and excellent insight into the Power of Sport with panellists Emer O’Neill, Nikki Bradley and Bekah Grant guided by the always energetic Joanne Murphy of Tri Talking Sport, a long-time friend of Sport for Business.  They spoke with power and emotion about the incredible impact sport has had on their journeys.

The conference incorporated innovative approaches to engaging the attendees with the introduction of a silent disco workshop, an illustrated note taker and a new conference app which includes gamification to drive interaction, and enjoyment through a little competition.

Well done to Louise Burke and all of the team for delivering a winning couple of days that will have a lasting impact.
