Sports Direct is proud to announce an inspiring new partnership with Special Olympics Ireland, reinforcing its commitment to making sport accessible to all.

Rooted in its mission to “Champion the Legend in Everyone”, this has the potential to be a real game changer in creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to achieve their full potential.

This collaboration is billed as more than just a sponsorship—it is a movement to redefine the future of inclusivity in sport.

By teaming up with Special Olympics Ireland, Sports Direct is determined to help create a level playing field, where every athlete has the opportunity to train, compete, and thrive.

“At Special Olympics Ireland, we have seen time and again how sport has the power to uplift, empower, and transform lives,” said Matt English, CEO of Special Olympics Ireland.

“This partnership with Sports Direct is transformative, proving that when like-minded organisations unite to champion inclusivity, the results are extraordinary. We are delighted to stand with Sports Direct in celebrating the potential of every athlete.”

Through sponsorship, fundraising, and community engagement, Sports Direct will provide crucial resources to Special Olympics Ireland’s athletes for the next four years; from grassroots to the World Games, and everything in between.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with Special Olympics Ireland, an organisation that embodies resilience, inclusivity, and the power of sport to change lives,” said Leonard Brassell, Managing Director of Sports Direct Ireland.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to Champion the Legend in Everyone, fostering a more inclusive society, and celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Special Olympics athletes.”

This alliance embodies the shared vision of both organisations—to push boundaries, challenge perceptions, and build a future where everyone, no matter their background or ability, has the chance to embrace the power of sport. Together, Sports Direct and Special Olympics Ireland will continue to Champion the Legend in Everyone.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

This is a special one.  Sports Direct made contact with Special Olympics Ireland after hearing Margaret Turley tell her story at the Sport for Business Sporting Year Ahead in 2023.  What started as support through scholarships has now grown into this full blown partnership.  There are few deals this year that will have quite the same personal connection.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Team Ireland will be travelling to the Special Olympics World Winter Games next month and so will we.
