Sports Direct has named Irish Boxer Caoimhin Agyarko as a brand ambassador for Ireland under the Sports Direct owned brand Everlast.

Agyarko, 24, is an undefeated Irish middleweight, with a perfect record of 9-0, including 6 knockouts. He recently signed a management deal with STN Sports before agreeing to a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing last month.

His first fight under the Matchroom stable will see him come up against unbeaten American Noe Larios Jr, on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s and Conor Benn’s bouts in Liverpool, this Saturday.

Nicknamed “Black Thunder”, Agyarko learned his trade in the Holy Trinity Boxing Club in Belfast under legendary coach Mickey Hawkins who took Agyarko under his wing after moving from the UK at the age of 7.

Born in Croydon, London to an Irish mother, and a Ghanaian father, Agyarko is a six-time national champion.

His journey has not been a straight line of success though. Back in 2017, he endured life-threatening injuries after an attack that left him with a terrifying wound on his face at only 20 years of age.

“I’m over the moon to be partnering up with Everlast, having them support my career means so much,” he said.

“I’m proud to be a part of the team. I’ve got some massive nights ahead of me and with Everlast backing me, there’s no doubt I’ll go all the way to the top.”

“We’re very proud to welcome Caoimhin Agyarko, to Team Everlast”, said Chris Zoller, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development for Everlast.

“He is a rare talent that has overcome so much of adversity in life yet remains genuine and positive. We are honoured to be a part of his journey.”

“We are delighted to offer our support to Caoimhin as he continues his inspiring journey in the world of boxing,” added Leonard Brassel, Managing Director of Sports Direct in Ireland.

“As a nation, Ireland has a history of punching above its weight and it’s an honour for us at Sports Direct to equip Caoimhin with what he needs to pursue his dream of becoming a world champion.”

Sport for Business Perspective

Boxing continues to deliver storytelling of the highest order and yet often struggles to attract sponsorship. This is a good sign that a young boxer will be part of ongoing Sports Direct campaigns and bodes well for further moves in this space.
