TG4 will once again bring Hurling for Cancer Research to television screens this summer, with the hugely popular charity match set for live coverage on GAA BEO from 7.15 pm next Monday, August 18th, on TG4 and TG4.ie.
The event, which raises vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s research work, proved a hit with viewers in 2024, peaking at 219,000 live viewers.
Organisers are promising another evening of top-class hurling, celebrity cameos, and entertainment in aid of a worthy cause.
This year’s confirmed participants include sporting greats Anthony Daly and Stephen Hunt, along with players from the Cork and Tipperary teams who contested this year’s All-Ireland Hurling Final.
Also set to feature are Kerry football star Paudie Clifford, Kilkenny’s TJ Reid, Wexford’s Lee Chin, Limerick’s Morrissey brothers, and Dublin footballers Con O’Callaghan and Chris Crummey.
Adding to the fun on the sidelines, Champion Jockey Paul Townend and Champion Trainer Willie Mullins will act as umpires, joined by former Republic of Ireland striker Niall Quinn and ex-boxing world champion Bernard Dunne. The full match line-ups, management teams, and officials will be revealed closer to the date.
Founded in 2012 by trainer Jim Bolger and former jockey Davy Russell, Hurling for Cancer Research has become a highlight of the GAA and wider sporting calendar, bringing together stars from across sport and entertainment in support of cancer research.
This year’s event will also have the backing of Centra, who have come on board as a supporter of the initiative.
