Following the news yesterday morning that Virgin Media would be increasing coverage of the SSE Airtricity men’s Premier Division in 2025, we have breaking news this morning that TG4 is committing to more in the Women’s Premier Division as well.

This will be the fifth successive season that TG4 has committed to promoting the highest level of women’s domestic football in Ireland with 14 games set to be shown live.

Along with the All-Island Cup Final, TG4 will have their cameras at 13 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division games to deliver all of the action via Spórt TG4’s Sacar Beo – which is also available via the TG4 app.

TG4 have been there to capture some of the most memorable goals and best games over recent seasons, including the trophy lift for the last three years. As a result, the average TV viewership of the League has risen by 70% with the average peak audience jumping from 24,009 to 33,608 last season.

“It is fantastic to continue our partnership with TG4 to broadcast live games of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division on national TV,” said League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon.

“A significant part of the League’s growth has been the increased visibility and TG4 have been key to that over the past four seasons with 38 games shown in total.”

“Now that will be increased for the 2025 campaign and we are looking forward to seeing those games reach an even wider audience.”

“TG4 is looking forward to another season of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division and we are very pleased to continue supporting women’s domestic football,” added TG4 Head of Sport Rónán Ó Coisdealbha.

“Broadcasting women’s sport has been an integral part of TG4’s core values since we came on air in 1996 and we would like to thank the FAI for giving us the opportunity to showcase women’s football.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

The rise in the average viewership is a strong positive and vindication for increased coverage.  Getting more fans inspired by the TV to get to the ground and experience the League live will be a key target for 2025.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

The selection of the first set of live games in the 2025 season will be confirmed in due course.
