Cricket Ireland has received a major boost ahead of the start of the season with confirmation that Turkish Airlines is to renew its headline sponsorship of the sport here until 2021.

The two-year extension is seen as a sign of the growing profile of Irish cricket around the world.

Turkish Airlines is one of the most important sponsors in world sport with investments at the highest levels of football, basketball, golf, cycling, athletics, rugby and American Football.

The airline sponsored the Irish Men’s Hockey Team ahead of their appearance in the World Cup in India at the end of 2018 but it is in cricket that they have made their deepest and most sustained investment here.

“Turkish Airlines is delighted to announce that our partnership has been extended for another 2 years with Cricket Ireland,” said Hasan Mutlu, Country Manager for Turkish Airlines in Dublin yesterday.

“2019 is another milestone for Turkish Airlines as we are moving to our new hub in Istanbul, the largest airport in the world with an initial capacity of 90 million passengers in phase one with a final capacity of 200 million passengers a year.”

“And it will be a milestone for Irish Cricket to play a Test match at the Home of Cricket in Lord’s in the summer. It is an honour for Turkish Airlines, the carrier that flies to more countries than any other, to be a part of Cricket Ireland and to see their rise on the global level.”

“We hope to see our collaboration with Cricket Ireland go from strength to strength in the coming years.”

“We are thrilled with Turkish Airlines’ announcement and see it as a vote of confidence in the direction of our sport and its growing profile around the world,” said Cricket Ireland Commercial Director Denis Cousins.

“Since Ireland received Full Membership and Test status in 2017 we have seen an uplift in interest and awareness of the Irish cricket brand, and as a result, we have been able to invest back into the sport.”

“It is a great sign that our commercial partners are on board with both our objectives as an organisation and our values as a sport. That one of the world’s biggest airlines is committed to our sport is a boost for all involved in the Irish cricket community and reflects well on Ireland as an important global market for business and investment.”

The airline will continue with their shirt sponsorship of the Ireland Men’s international team as part of the agreement.
