RTÉ and United Rugby Championship have this morning officially launched URC TV, a new global streaming service offering fans around the world the opportunity to watch games live and on-demand, and follow their team home or away.

URC TV will be the ultimate single destination for fans to watch all 151 games when and where they want, with every minute of every URC game live and on-demand.

RTÉ has been to the fore in the development of ‘blended’ broadcast arrangements with GAAGo and FAITV providing valuable experience, as we learn in our exclusive interview with RTÉ Director-General Dee Forbes on Sport for Business today.

Packages for the service will start from €19.99 for a weekend pass with other options to give full coverage of all Irish games or of the full slate of fixtures.  They will be available to viewers around the world, including in Ireland and the United States but not in the UK or South Africa where all the games will be shown on Premier Sports and SuperSport respectively.

In Ireland, the service will be available ‘over the top’ of the free to air rights that will deliver a minimum of 70 games through the season on RTÉ and TG4. Read more about this announcement from yesterday.

It will be easily accessible across multiple devices with mobile apps launching soon after the tournament starts. Matches will be broadcast in full HD quality with full English language commentary.

“In addition to RTÉ’s strength in TV it has experience of streaming big sporting events globally and is evidence of a broadcaster that can adapt to market demands and provide a very creative offering for rights holders,” said Martin Anayi, CEO of the United Rugby Championship.
