The 2022 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon was launched today by Roz Purcell atop Killiney Hill in Dublin. This is the 40th year of the event which will take place on Sunday, June 5th.

It will be the first physical event to take place under the popular banner since 2019.

The event has also been instrumental in helping hundreds of charities raise money for their causes. It is estimated that over €226 million has been raised for charities since the event began in 1983.

Vhi has teamed up with Roz Purcell alongside other inspirational partners to help participants prepare for the event in a manageable way with training plans tailored to all fitness levels, nutrition support and much more.

The event will celebrate on social media as well under the hashtag of #WomenMakingMagic and is inviting women to share the magic to mark this significant milestone in the event’s history.

Every participant will receive a Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon 40th anniversary medal, a Vhi commemorative finisher t-shirt and exclusive access to the Official Event App.

As well as this, everyone who registers will receive a 20 per cent discount code for Intersport Elverys and those who register before Monday, April 18th will automatically be entered into a draw to win a fantastic holiday for two to Lake Garda from Topflight.

This year, for the first time, the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon will take place as a hybrid event, meaning the event is offering both physical and virtual options for participants who wish to take part in the 10km from anywhere in the world. A limited number of entries for the virtual event will open after Easter.

“We are absolutely delighted to be back this year with our physical event, allowing women from across the country to come together once more and enjoy the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon,” said General Manager of the event, David O’Leary

“It’s a particularly special year for us, as we celebrate the 40th year of this national institution. We were overwhelmed with the response to our virtual events over the past two years, which saw thousands of women taking part in locations all over the country, but this year we can’t wait to have everyone join us as we return to the streets of Dublin.”

“We hope women all over Ireland will join us this June to celebrate the special milestone of our 40th year.”

“The 2022 Vhi WMM will celebrate togetherness, and whether you participate with friends, family, colleagues or solo you’ll be part of a special community,” added Brighid Smyth, Head of Corporate Communications in Vhi.

“The event has also been instrumental in helping hundreds of charities raise money for their causes and we are really proud to be the Title sponsor, especially for this milestone anniversary.”

“We are really excited to come together again and enjoy this iconic event in person. We understand that it can be difficult to fit training into our busy lives and so have teamed up with some expert partners, to help participants to prepare for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in a manageable way.”

Sport for Business Perspective:

Having become the largest Women only participation event in the world you would have to be optimistic that it will recapture its mojo straight away and sell out whatever number of places are made available. Creating a hybrid event is very much in keeping with the modern way of events but making sure that the camaraderie and the fun of doing it together with friends, whether you’ve met them before or not, is a real winner.
