Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Association has agreed a three-year sponsorship with Waterford Dairy Farmers.

The new partnership marks a significant investment in the future of women’s football in the county, with a primary focus on supporting the senior team while also contributing to the development of underage PDP (Player Development Pathway) programmes.

“This is a fantastic partnership that goes beyond financial support—it’s about strengthening the foundations of women’s sport in Waterford,” said Mark Power, Waterford LGFA County Chairperson.

“The Waterford Dairy Farmers have recognised the challenges we face, and their backing will be instrumental in helping us grow and develop at all levels.”

“Farmers are deeply embedded in every community in the county, involved in clubs at all levels, and this partnership is about building from the ground up.”

Beyond supporting the growth of women’s football, this partnership also aims to highlight the nutritional benefits of dairy for athletes.

Recent studies have reinforced the role of dairy products in bone strength, recovery, and overall sports nutrition, making this an ideal collaboration for both Waterford LGFA and Waterford Dairy Farmers.

“We are keen to promote the benefits of dairy as part of a healthy, balanced diet, particularly for athletes,” added Power.

“This partnership is the perfect fit, combining community support with education on the importance of nutrition in sport.”

“An opportunity to sponsor the Waterford Ladies Gaelic Footballers came about from my involvement with my
local club Shamrocks LGFA,” said Kevin Moloney from Waterford Dairy Farmers.

“I believe that by helping Waterford Ladies footballers we could highlight the positive aspects of farming and shine a light on the contribution farmers make to their communities, the environment, and the importance of a diet that includes dairy products.”

“We got together as a group of dairy farmers made up of Tirlán Council members and formed a committee to organise the sponsorship of the Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Association for the next 3 years.”

“We are really excited to finally launch our sponsorship and we’re very proud to be supporting the players, coaches and volunteers who share our ambition and deserve to be supported to be able compete nationally’.”

“We are excited to work with Waterford Dairy Farmers in our new partnership,” said team captain Emma Murray.

“Their support will play a crucial role in our growth and development at every level, and we are looking forward to seeing the positive impact it has on Ladies Football in Waterford.”

“Across the county, farmers are an essential part of our communities, contributing to local clubs and organisations. This initiative aims to develop these ties even further.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

We have always held that the majority of sponsorships at local level will come from somebody already involved in a sport or a team.  They understand what is needed and run the financial calculation based on emotion as well as actual benefit.  That is a good thing, and having professional help such as that offered by Branding Sport makes it more likely to be sustainable in the longer term as well, with benefit on both sides.
