Jonathan Hill, CEO of the FAI, spoke to a collection of media representatives on Friday and his thoughts on where the Association is at the start of 2021 made for interesting listening.

He was very open and honest about the challenges which lie ahead and his thoughts on the Euro 2020 finals in Dublin, the prospects for the Republic of Ireland senior teams in the Men’s and Women’s World Cup Qualifiers and more have been widely reported across the weekend.

This morning we want to focus on what he said in response to questions about sponsorship and the companies that could be in discussion about coming on board over the course of the coming months; the kind of coverage we can expect from the new streaming services covering the SSE Airtricity League and the departure of Larry Bass and the way in which the Finance committee is operating.

“I’ve been involved in the commercial side of sport for a long time.”

“Normally a deal to replace a key sponsor like Three would take between six to twelve months to bring to a conclusion. In a Covid and Brexit environment that is obviously more difficult. But we are out there and we are talking,”
