Sports technology business Whoop has confirmed that it is to lead its international expansion from a new base in Dublin.

Back in August we highlighted that Pippa Doyle who had been sponsorship lead for Littlewoods Ireland on its Camogie and Hurling partnerships was joining the company in the role of international brand and marketing manager.

Olympic Gold Medallist Rower Fintan McCarthy was part of the announcement about the expansion, pictured above.

She followed Briain Curtin and Brian Kearney who had both previously worked at O2 and Fitbit as part of a strong and growing team based here.

There are currently seven people working from Dublin but that will rise to at least 50 by the end of next year.

The past twelve months have been marked by rapid growth for the company in membership numbers and additional product enhancements to its technology.

It raised $200 million in a Series F funding round at a $3.6 billion valuation back in August and we attended the launch of its newest products; the WHOOP 4.0 and WHOOP Body.

“Dublin is the ideal location for WHOOP to grow our global team,” said founder Will Ahmed.

“The city has a highly-skilled workforce which will allow us to further expand our international reach – not just in Ireland and Europe, but around the world.”

“We’re very excited about this announcement and for the opportunity to build on WHOOP’s growth,” added Briain Curtin.

“We have ambitious expansion plans for international markets over the next number of years, and I’m looking forward to adding to our team and developing our base in Dublin to drive success.”

“I’m really pleased that WHOOP has chosen to locate its new international base in Dublin,” said Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar.

“Dublin is rightly regarded as one of Europe’s leading tech cities, and has much to offer innovative new companies like WHOOP. I wish the team the very best in this exciting new chapter in Ireland.”
