The objective of the initiative is to celebrate and showcase women’s sport at every level, from the grassroots to the elite, and highlight the incredible contribution that women make to sport.
The overall aim is to get more women and girls physically active and playing sport.
Both of these aims are as valid across the rest of Ireland and deserving of support to make them happen.
Sport for Business looked last year at creating something similar here but the momentum was not there, and there was some debate over whether a single week in the spotlight was the best way to make things better.
Without question Women’s sport has made great strides over recent years. To have global brands such as Liberty Insurance, Lidl, Aon and Continental Tyres throwing their commercial might behind women’s sport could hardly have been imagined a few short years ago and yet now it is the norm.
Enhanced media coverage is also coming with RTE broadcasting the Camogie All Ireland semi finals for the first time this year and the Irish Times dedicating a weekly focus in this area.
We will continue wherever possible to advance the cause of Women in the participation, administration and leadership of sport and will be reviving our Women in Sport Group within the Sport for Business Community to explore ways in which that can be brought to life in real and practical terms.
If you are a member from either the sporting or business worlds and would like to be part of this group, please contact us today and let’s do what we can together to make things better.
