BoyleSports are not an official sponsor of Irish Rugby but they hit gold when engaging Simon Zebo to record a preview for them of the Guinness Six Nations.
When asked if he still had ambitions to play for Ireland he revealed that “I was close enough to warrant a phone call off Andy Farrell which was nice.”
“I’ve been in good form, scoring some good tries and playing well. That was the main thing – getting a run of games together which I hadn’t done in quite a while through injury.”
“Obviously I’m disappointed. I would have loved to be in Portugal (training camp) with the lads and going into week one of the Six Nations, but it wasn’t to be.”
“All I can try to do is stay healthy and keep putting in big performances in big games and the rest will take care of itself.”
“I’m not too far away, so another few big performances and I should throw my hat in the ring for the summer tour maybe, who knows. I’ve no quarrels and I’m just excited to keep producing my best rugby.”
Ireland are underdogs for tonight’s game to be shown live on Virgin Media. Bookmakers are giving them a four point start on the handicap and their odds of winning the game have been drifting in the last couple of days from 2.5 to 2.65.
They are 2.75 to win the Championship and 3.5 to do so with another Grand Slam.
