Ciara Munnelly – Sport Ireland

Ciara Munnelly is the Outdoors Recreation Manager at Sport Ireland.

She is currently leading on national projects with significant impact including the development of a National Digital Database, National Trails Register and Trails Development.

She is currently also co-leading the development of an outdoor recreation strategy, working closely with various Government Departments. This is set to be one of the most significant plans for broad-based physical activities in recent history.

Munnelly stepped up to this role in January 2020, a little over a year after joining Sport Ireland. She had previously worked as an anti-money laundering investigator with Link Asset Services.

The Kildare native secured her degree in Geography and Computer Science from Maynooth University.

She is an accomplished Eventer and played Rugby for Leinster in the Interpros.

The criteria for nomination is that they should either be working in a role that sees them playing a significant part in sports administration, sports marketing or the commercial world of sport; or that they are a graduate of an Irish third-level institution and making their mark on the international stage, and that they were born in or after 1992.
