Liverpool in DublinLiverpool FC are coming to Dublin for a high profile ‘post-season’ friendly against Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday, May 14th.

Between them the two sides have no fewer than 35 League titles and after last night’s 2-1 win over Sunderland, Liverpool have taken another step closer to the possibility of adding another.

The English Premier League season comes to a finale three days before the Dublin fixture.  Liverpool play Newcastle in their last game of the season while title chasing rivals Man City are at home to West Ham and Chelsea are away to Cardiff.

Tickets are on sale now through club sites for season ticket holders , as well as for FAI Season Ticket and Vantage Club members.  General admission tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 28th at 10am.  Prices will be from €15 for children and €20 for adults.

The last time Liverpool played in Dublin, against Celtic last August all the tickets were sold in the space of 90 minutes.

Liverpool and Rovers last met 32 years ago in a friendly at Milltown, Dublin. The final score was 1-1, with Ian Rush scoring for Liverpool.

“I remember scoring that goal. It’ll be great to play them again and take away a win this time rather than a draw” said Liverpool FC legend and ambassador, Ian Rush.

“We are delighted to be taking on Liverpool in this high profile game at Aviva Stadium,” said Shamrock Rovers chairman, Jonathan Roche.

“It will see two clubs with strong histories of success and great fans face each other in what should be an entertaining game of football and a great occasion. It will be a great game for our players to be involved in, and also a good day out for our fans and Irish supporters of Liverpool, many of whom are also SSE Airtricity League supporters.”

The fixture will provide a solid boost to the finances of Irish soccer which would otherwise suffer this calendar year from having only one competitive fixture at home, the visit of Gibraltar in the Euro 2016 Qualifiers in October.  The three other games before the end of the year are away against Georgia, Scotland and Germany.

There will be a range of sponsorship and hospitality arrangements available for companies.  If you would like to learn more about opportunities around the event please contact Sport for Business today.
