The Irish Sponsorship Summit
It was great to see quite a number of subscribers at yesterday’s Irish Sponsorship Summit.  The day will be covered in more detail in next week’s issue of Sport for Business Weekly but we live blogged the event and you can see some of the detail on that page.
Among the points that generated some debate last night on twitter were Derek McGrath of the ERC’s comment that 80% of pre booked revenues for the ERC are from TV and only 20% from sponsorship.

Night Time Run for Dublin
Samsung Ireland and Dublin City Council have announced a major city centre event to mark the 2012 Olympic Games.  ‘Samsung Run Dublin @ Night’ is a 10k run which will take place at 8:30pm on Sunday 29th April 2012. Samsung is a worldwide  partner of the London Olympics 2012 and is working with event partner Dublin City Council to bring “some of the sprit and excitement of the Games to Ireland”.
The race is expected to attract 5,000 runners. It will start and finish at Trinity College, and take in iconic landmarks including the GPO, the Custom House, the Convention Centre and the Samuel Beckett Bridge. The evening will conclude with a post-race event for participants with music, The Irish Village Farmers Market and entertainment at Trinity College.
Gary Twohig, General Manager, Samsung Telecommunication & Networks Ireland, said “As a Dubliner, I am very proud to be involved with this special event. Dublin is a beautiful city and the opportunity to experience it by night in this unique way should not be missed. Furthermore, the Samsung Run Dublin@Night 10K is sure to bring some of the spirit of the Olympics to Dublin.”
Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague said “I am delighted to be associated with this event.  Any activity which gets Dubliners out running through our historic streets is to be welcomed.   It is a great initiative.”

NI Soccer set for major development
Soccer in Northern Ireland is set to receive a major boost after agreement between the IFA and Linfield over the €30 million development of Windsor Park.  This will also release an additional near €40 million which will go towards upgrading facilities at venues including Derry City’s Brandywell and a new ground in the Titanic Quarter for Glentoran.  This will also house the IFA’s National Youth Academy.
These projects will take place in parallel with the redevelopment of Ravenhill which we covered in Sport for Business weekly in January, and Casement Park
Racing centre stage for Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The first formal event of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in England will take place at Epsom Racecourse in June when the newly renamed Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec) will move from Friday’s Ladies Day to Investec Derby Day.
The Queen is a known fan of the sport and attended the 1953 Derby only three days after she was crowned.
Katie Taylor Boxing in Bray tonight
Katie Taylor will continue her preparations for the Olympic Qualifying tournament when she boxes at the Royal Hotel in Bray tonight Friday and tomorrow Saturday.  Tickets for the event cost €15.
Meanwhile Taylor is reported to have been asked to appear in an Olympic film being prepared by NBC and the BBC to be shown around the world as part of international coverage of the London 2012 Games.
