Jonathan Walters scores from the penalty spot 26/3/2013The FAI is about to set a new record for season ticket sales with a figure of 10,000 likely to breached between now and the closing of the sales period on Monday, August 25th.

This is the fourth time the season ticket option has been offered to Irish fans and is going to be a minimum of 20% ahead of the previous best.

“The package of benefits around the ticket have proven a winner,” said FAI Commercial Director Max Hamilton, speaking exclusively to Sport for Business yesterday.

“The open training session allowed almost 1,000 fans to get up close and personal with players and management and brought a new element to their engagement with the team.”

“We are at the start now of a new future with Martin and Roy preparing for the Euro 2016 qualifiers, new playing talent emerging and word expected shortly on whether we have been successful in our bid to bring the Euro 2020 Finals in part to Dublin.”

“Fans want to be a part of that and it is likely that you will need to be a season ticket holder to guarantee a ticket for the big away qualifier against Scotland.”

FAI Season TicketSpecial offers on tours of the Aviva Stadium over the summer and discounts on the Ireland kit have also been taken up well through sales of the season ticket package for individual fans and family groups.

The next phase of long term sales is the Club Ireland package, launched last month and aimed at businesses looking to secure premium experience in terms of staff motivation and corporate entertaining over the next ten years.

Early signs on these tickets have been similarly encouraging and a successful start to qualifying will give added impetus to that.

It has been a good week for the FAI with Wednesday’s major announcement of Continental Tyres coming on board for a four year period as backers of the Women’s game at club level and through the elite camps bringing players through into Sue Ronan’s international set up.
