Setanta Sport has announced its coverage of this seasons Allianz Leagues with a total of 12 football and five hurling matches to be shown live.
Subscriber numbers have risen over the past year with the impact of BT Sport’s Premier League and Rugby coverage, as well as tennis and basketball, likely to provide a boost to the numbers watching games.
Saturday’s crucial European Rugby Champions’ Cup clash between Leinster and Wasps is exclusively live on BT Sport through the Setanta Sports subscription package.
“It’s also likely to have a positive impact that Sky have entered the GAA market and encouraged more people to pay a subscription to watch gaelic games,” said Setanta’s Marketing Operations Director Brian Quinn.
“We’ve been in the game with the Allianz Leagues for eight years now though and we have built a strong committed audience who love their sport. This year is about providing a good level of coverage and analysis, and building all the time.
Speaking at the Business of Sport Science Conference earlier this month BT Sport Executive Producer Grant Best told the audience that the broadcaster was committed to its partnership here with Setanta and with Champions’ League coverage switching there from Sky in the summer that is expected to give another boost.
Setanta have certainly been active in attracting new analysts for this season on the Allianz Leagues.
Former Clare and Dublin manager Anthony Daly and Kilkenny star Brian Hogan head up the hurling coverage while Rory Kavanagh, James Horan, Declan O’Sullivan and Aaron Kernan will add a wealth of experience to the football.
