Stakeholders conference

The Aviva Stadium will be packed this evening for Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Germany but that’s not the only gathering that will be important today for the Association.

Throughout the day an important group of stakeholders in the work the FAI does around the country will gather within kicking distance of the Aviva pitch to hear plans and discuss ways in which ‘Positive Partnerships’ can be strengthened where they exist and developed where they do not.

Today’s session follows on from a successful event in 2013 which gathered together local authorities, state agencies, Government Departments and a selection of other partners.

There is a high profile group of speakers who will address the session, including two Government Ministers in Leo Varadkar from Health and Michael Ring from Sport.

Areas to be covered include the development plan for the Women’s game that was launched two weeks ago, and how football can assist in terms of a healthier nation in physical as well as mental health terms.

Sport for Business will be there throughout the day, contributing to the debate and we will share some of the thoughts and ideas to emerge through our social media channels as well as in a report here tomorrow morning.

After the event focus will turn to the pitch where Martin O’Neill’s side face the reigning world champions.  A win would secure a play-off place at least for the Euro Finals next summer while the same would also be guaranteed should Scotland lose to Poland in Glasgow.
