Katie Taylor has wasted little time moving into the next chapter of her career, with FIZZIQUE, the soft drink brand she co-created and co-owns, securing nationwide distribution through Centra.

Just days after bringing the curtain down on her extraordinary boxing career with victory in front of a sold-out Croke Park, Taylor was at Centra Delgany in her native Wicklow yesterday to mark the rollout.

FIZZIQUE launched in May and has already sold out twice, with the agreement with Centra representing an important next step in moving the brand into mainstream convenience retail.

The drink sits in the increasingly competitive “better-for-you” soft drinks category, with low sugar and calorie content, high fibre, and natural juices and flavourings, plus added magnesium and vitamin D.

For Taylor, who is a co-creator and shareholder rather than simply an ambassador, it represents a significant extension of her commercial profile beyond boxing.

“Just like we changed minds about women and boxing, with FIZZIQUE we’re going to change minds about soda and health,” she said. “It’s a game changer, it’s ambitious, and I love that.”

Taylor has been one of Ireland’s most commercially attractive sports stars throughout her career, working with major brands including Lidl, Bank of Ireland, Sky and others at different stages.

FIZZIQUE represents something different: an opportunity to build equity in a business using the profile, reputation and audience established during her sporting career.  The timing could hardly be stronger.

Taylor’s final appearance at Croke Park generated enormous public attention, with RTÉ reporting a peak television audience of 1.6 million viewers during the final round.

Her retirement now creates an opportunity for the Katie Taylor brand to evolve from active athlete into entrepreneur, investor and potentially one of the most enduring commercial personalities in Irish sport.

“There are few people who have made Ireland prouder or have achieved throughout their extraordinary career than Katie Taylor,” said Centra Trading Director Finbar McCarthy.

“We’re delighted to welcome Katie to Centra Delgany and to support the next chapter of her journey by bringing FIZZIQUE to Centra stores nationwide.”

Centra said customers increasingly wanted healthier alternatives that retained the taste and enjoyment of traditional soft drinks.

The retailer is also expanding its range of SiSú products, including cold-pressed shots and organic kombucha, with further functional products under consideration.

Sport for Business Perspective

The gloves may have been placed in the centre of the Croke Park ring for the final time, but Taylor’s commercial story is far from over.

The most successful athlete businesses are those where the athlete moves beyond endorsement into ownership.

FIZZIQUE gives Taylor precisely that opportunity.

Nationwide Centra distribution puts the product in front of a significantly broader consumer audience and provides an early test of whether one of Ireland’s strongest sporting brands can translate successfully from the ring to the retail shelf.

For Centra, meanwhile, the association combines an Irish start-up story, one of the country’s most admired sporting figures, and growing consumer demand for functional, better-for-you drinks.

It looks like smart timing for both.
