Amgen Irish Open – Doonbeg, Co Clare | Friday–Sunday
The biggest sporting crowd of the weekend will be on the Clare coast as the Amgen Irish Open reaches its climax at Trump International Golf Links. Defending champion Rory McIlroy heads an exceptional field alongside Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Pádraig Harrington, with Saturday’s moving day followed by the crowning of the champion on Sunday.
Irish Champions Festival – Leopardstown & The Curragh | Saturday–Sunday
One of the outstanding weekends in the international Flat racing calendar. Leopardstown on Saturday is headed by the €1.25 million Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at 5 pm, while The Curragh on Sunday stages four consecutive Group 1 contests including the Comer Group International Irish St Leger. The festival offers seven Group 1 races and more than €5 million in prize-money across its two days.
ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship – Dún Laoghaire | Saturday
A month of world championship sailing on Dublin Bay comes to a dramatic conclusion. The top ten sailors contest two Final Series races on Saturday, with Ireland’s Eve McMahon right in the battle after climbing to seventh overall. More than 100 sailors from 44 countries have competed in the first Women’s ILCA World Championship ever staged in Ireland.
BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby Final – Shelbourne Park | Saturday night
Six remain from the field that began the journey in August, with Bouncing Monarch heading to Shelbourne Park as the hot favourite after an unbeaten run through the competition. The Derby remains Irish greyhound racing’s blue-riband night, with the final also broadcast live on Virgin Media Television 2 from 9 pm.
106th Dublin City Liffey Swim – Dublin City | Saturday
One of the capital’s oldest sporting traditions takes over the river. Hundreds of swimmers will tackle approximately 2.2km through the Liffey, with the women’s race starting at noon and the open/male event at 1.30 pm. This year the race also forms a centrepiece of the inaugural two-day Dublin City Council Liffey Festival, bringing an added crowd and festival atmosphere to the quays.
St Patrick’s Athletic v Shamrock Rovers – Richmond Park | Friday, 8 pm
A Dublin derby with serious championship consequences. Shamrock Rovers enter the weekend six points ahead of St Patrick’s Athletic, making a trip to a packed Richmond Park precisely the sort of fixture that can reshape the closing weeks of the League of Ireland title race.
