Irish Sports Tech company Kitman Labs has scored a major win with the appointment of Billy Beane as an Advisory Board member.

Beane is executive vice president of baseball operations at the Oakland A’s and became famous as the inspiration for Moneybag and how statistics and analysis can be used in a transformational way within sport.

Kitman Labs is led by former Leinster Rugby strength and conditioning coach Stephen Smith and includes Jamie Heaslip among its investors.  Kevin McLaughlin took up a senior role after retiring from rugby in 2015.

The principal funding for the expansion of the company from Ireland to the US was provided by John Malloy of Blue Run Ventures and the company currently has agreements in place with the IRFU, Everton and Norwich City in the Premier League, Leinster and  Bath in rugby, the Miami Dolphins in the NFL and the Detroit Pistons in the NBA among others.

The company won the Sport for Business Spark of Innovation award in 2015.
