Skibereen rowers Paul and Gary O’Donovan are the latest to feature in a winning series of sports based videos encouraging entry in this year’s Nissan Generation Next programme
The two brothers qualified to represent Ireland in the Lightweight Double Sculls event at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio as ambassadors on last year’s programme where they were provided with a brand new, taxed and insured Nissan to drive for a year.
Film and photographic crews recently travelled to Cork to capture a day in the life of the duo as they pursue their Olympic dream with a rigorous training regime on and off the water.
Photographs of the brothers will also appear as the centrepiece of an uplifting national advertising campaign across digital media and the national print media calling on ambitious achievers to follow their lead in becoming Nissan Generation Next ambassadors.
“Nissan Generation Next helped us to achieve our dream. The cars have been incredible really. They are an amazing piece of kit freeing up more time for training and recovery,” said Paul.
“We are on the water at 8 a.m. rowing two hours at a controlled pace. Depending on the day we then head home for study or a nap. Then it’s back on the water for two hours interval work at high intensity or race pace followed by a one hour gym session,” he added.
“Some days we are on the go from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. which wouldn’t be possible without the support we have received from Nissan. We made a great decision to apply to Nissan Generation Next and our advice to anyone who wants to get ahead is to apply now when they can,” said Gary.
“We are looking for people like Paul and Gary who are confident, focused and passionate about what they do in life and who could use a brand new, taxed and insured Nissan to help them achieve their goals,” explained James McCarthy, CEO of Nissan Ireland.
“As Nissan Generation Next ambassadors Paul and Gary exemplify what it takes to make it on the national and world stage. They forge ahead with tenacity and determination and their ability to focus on what they want to achieve and to overcome the obstacles and challenges that they encounter is truly inspirational,” he added.
