The bottom line of the GAA will receive a boost in 2017 with confirmation this morning of a fourth concert at the stadium featuring the Rolling Stones on May 17th.
This is in addition to the concerts featuring Michael Bublé on July 7th and Taylor Swift on June 15th and 16th already scheduled for what is recognised as one of the biggest and best concert venues in the world.
Mick Jagger and the Stones are bound to be a major draw and this will be the first concert on the 2018 leg of the No Filter Tour which will also take in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Berlin, Stuttgart, Marseille, Prague and Warsaw.
The announcement marks a return to Croke Park for Aiken Promotions who last hosted concerts there in 2016 with the successful double date of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
It will be a busy week around Dublin with Ed Sheeran playing at The Phoenix Park on Wednesday 16th, Friday 18th and Saturday 19th May.
The Rolling Stones Concert will be the only major event to take place at Croke Park during the month of May with no GAA Championship matches scheduled for headquarters during that month.
It will bring to 30 the number of major events being staged at the venue which is in line with recent years.
The Stadium is run as a separate company to the GAA and is a major contributor to the finances of the sport. In 2017, the Stadium paid a dividend of €7.5 Million to the GAA, off total income for the year of €27 million.
2017 saw two concerts staged at the Stadium with over 80,000 fans attending each of the U2 and Coldplay concerts that took place in July.
