The popularity of cycling sportives has been proven again with the selling out of the Ring of Beara Cycle 2019 in a matter of hours.
4,200 places were snapped up in only 90 minutes for the event which will take place on May 25th next year.
This will be the fifth year after four previous sell-out events which start in Kenmare and make their way to Catletownbere before returning via Glengarriff.
The yearly event is backed by Fáilte Ireland under the banner of the Wild Atlantic Way and is estimated to be worth in excess of €3.5 million to the local economy.
“It’s great to see the event selling out so quickly again this year, said Oliver Kirwan of event organisers Elite Events.
“We’ve had four brilliant years to date and I have no doubt 2019 will be set to match them.”

Participants choose between 110km or 140km routes for the cycle. There was a pre-sale period for past participants and remaining tickets were then snapped up the following day.
The event is a major fundraiser for local good causes too. Last week the Ring of Beara Organising Committee presented cheques totalling €53,000 in donations to Castletownbere Community Hospital, Castletownbere Day Care Centre, Kenmare Family Resource Centre, Kenmare Special Olympics, Kenmare Special Needs Group and St John of God Services Kenmare.
