It is reported this morning that Dublin and Meath GAA are to stage a challenge match in Navan next months as part of the fundraising campaign for Liverpool fan Sean Cox.

The football fan who was attackedĀ attending a game at Anfield is now back in Ireland after getting treatment in the UK for his serious head injuries.

Long-term care will be needed as he continues his rehabilitation and the sporting world has gathered around him. Ā Over €200,000 has already been pledged through an online fundraising page but more will be needed.

Cox is a former chairman and active member of St Peter’s GAA Club in Dunboyne as well as being involved in the local athletics club.

It is thought that a match between the Dublin and Meath Ladies teams is also on the cards on the same afternoon of December 16th.

It is a great example of communities coming together to support their own and those willing to give their time and put in the effort on Cox’s behalf deserve plenty of credit.
