Four cinemas in Dublin, two in Kildare and one each in Cavan, Laois, Limerick and Waterford will show the match between Mayo and Donegal. Those wishing to attend need to book their places in advance by texting SPORT, the location of the cinema and their name and address to 50400.
The idea of live sport on a big screen is growing in popularity. Aside from the screens installed at or around major venues, remote screening was trialled in 3D earlier in the summer with Movies@Dundrum showing this year’s Men’s Singles Final in the format to a sold out audience.
The game will be televised on RTE across Ireland with TV3 showing the Electric Ireland sponsored minor final starting at 1.15. It can also be seen online through the players of both channels and on AerTV.
The match will also be broadcast on a number of pay per view channels around the world with Premier Sports showing it on the Sky platform in Britain; Premium sports through online, cable and in select venues in the United States; and Setanta Sports through online channels covering Asia, Australia and Africa.
Across mainland Europe where football and hurling have been growing rapidly among and beyond Irish communities the game can be viewed, again on a premium online channel through www.ustream.tv/GAAOnlinePPV.
The broadcast contract to cover the GAA Championships will conclude at the end of next season and talks are expected to commence in the autumn on the renewal of broadcast partnerships. It is expected that international and online coverage rights will command a higher value for the GAA than has previously been the case.
