The FAI has revealed the new version of the first team kit worn by the Republic of Ireland.  The kit will be on sale from October 5th and will be worn for the first time by the senior team in the World Cup qualifier against Germany at the Aviva Stadium one week later.  You can see a video of the launch on the Sport for Business You Tube Channel.
The release of the kit has received a cool reaction from fans coming only 12 months after the last change and replacing the kit bought by many for the European Championship finals.  This is the seventh new first team kit in ten years and sales in the important Christmas period may well hinge on the quality of performance in the game against Germany.
Three’s logo is prominent on the front of the replica jersey which is manufactured again by Umbro.  The brand, which is part of the Nike family suffered a number of reverses recently and will be hoping for strong sales of the Ireland kit.
Leinster Rugby also revealed a new jersey at their match against Edinburgh at the weekend and in a crowded marketplace Manchester United and Liverpool are among the popular Premier league clubs sporting new gear this season.
The one main difference for sponsors in the jersey stakes is that international sides, in soccer and rugby, generally do not carry logos.  This means that replica shirts are not the same as the ones worn by the stars on the highest profile occasions.  For clubs and provinces this is not the case.
