Brolly Weathers the Storm Clouds of Hypocrisy

eir Sport will broadcast 15 matches from the Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues over the coming weeks, starting with a simultaneous broadcast with RTÉ of the clash between Dublin and Kerry at Croke Park on January 25th.

Joe Brolly has been signed up as an analyst, his first outing in the role since being removed by RTÉ between the All Ireland Football final and the replay back in September.

Brolly was front and centre stage at the eir Sport launch yesterday, happily answering questions about what he admitted was the hypocrisy of his working behind a paywall, albeit one that was accessible to 600,000 customers through broadband and mobile phone packages.

He even had a nice story about nuns running an addiction centre who watched eir sport on their mobiles. It’s true that you can never quite predict what is going to come next with Brolly.

He does believe that the world has moved on since his strong opposition to the GAA selling rights to Sky TV and eir. “My own children don’t know what I’m on about when I talk about it.” “My argument is irrelevant now the way the world has changed and so here I am, doing what I said once that I never would.”

eir’s promo video for the coverage would whet the appetite regardless of who was behind the microphone. There will be enough perceived ‘danger’ in Brolly’s return though to make relevant again come next Saturday.
