Guinness has teamed up with Brian O’Driscoll to launch a number of events throughout the duration of the Guinness Six Nations that spotlight some of the best cultural experiences on offer across each of the six nations.
It is part of a campaign to broaden the partnership from one that is based more exclusively on the sporting action to one that is more focused on the experience of fans and what makes the events so memorable.
The ambition is to take the Championship out of the stadia and into the host cities, bringing people from rival nations together to share four unique cultural experiences together.
The experiences based around Ireland’s games will take place in and around Dublin and will have the involvement of iconic players as well as specialist chefs and different venues.
Hiking in Howth with Tommy and Thom:
The first cultural experience, centred around the Ireland v Scotland Championship opener, will be hosted by former on-field rivals, Tommy Bowe and Thom Evans and features the best coastline views and Irish pub fare in a hike along the iconic Howth Head followed by a meal and pint of the black stuff in a local pub.
A Grand Slam Winning Drop Goal:
The Ireland v Wales experience hosted by Ronan O’Gara and Shane Williams will challenge the bold, brave and curious to take their best shot at replicating Ronan O’Gara’s famous drop goal which led to Ireland’s 2009 Grand Slam win.
Serata Della Pizza (Pizza Evening):
Fusing the ultimate Irish and Italian cultural experience, Guinness will team up with an Italian rugby legend to host a pizza night for friends and rivals alike to enjoy a taste of Italy in iconic Dublin pubs across the city.
A French Foodie Experience:
A Guinnesstronomie event hosted on the day of the France v Ireland game will see well-known Irish and French chefs go head to head in a cook-off with attendees getting to savour the best foodie experience that each nation has to offer.
Brian O’Driscoll has launched the experiences this morning by highlighting the warm welcome that visitors from rival nations will experience in his home city of Dublin.
“I am really looking forward to meeting up with friends over the next few weeks from across each of the six nations,” he said.
“Many of whom were one-time on-field rivals and are now firm friends. I always enjoy benefitting from their local knowledge when I see them in their home towns. I hope that Scottish and Irish fans can enjoy coming together to experience some fun in my neck of the woods.”
“Guinness as Title Partner to the Guinness Six Nations will showcase the unique ability of the Championships to create friendships despite rivalries across the nations,” said Niall McKee, Head of Guinness, Europe.
Guinness wants to make sure that the 2020 Guinness Six Nations is the most exciting yet. We are delighted to introduce a number of events taking place throughout the Championship, that allow fans to experience first-hand some of the best cultural experiences on offer in each of the six nations, right here in Dublin.”
“Guinness is delighted to be kicking this off with a hike on the picturesque Howth Head, showcasing Ireland’s famously captivating coastline and vibrant Irish pub atmosphere.”
