They had cycling machines set up on St Stephens Green to replicate the Tour de France and used the month long series of activities to help integrate staff that had joined since last year into the culture of the company, at the same time as getting fit.
“We look on this challenge as a way of getting everyone involved in a a fun and healthy approach to life at work,” said Sigmar managing director Adie McGennis.
Special Olympics Ireland was the chosen charity of the Challenge this year as well as participating in a bid to retain their crown in the Best Sports Organisation Category. Last year’s campaign involved staff completing one mile of running, walking, cycling or swimming for each of the 11,000 Special Olympics athletes, and representing the 11,000 miles from Ireland to South Korea where this year’s Winter Special olympics were held.
They will face stiff competition this year from Triathlon Ireland, Basketball Ireland, Swim Ireland, the FAI, the irish Hockey Association and the irish Sports Council, all of whom are members of Sport for Business.
Other companies taking part this year include the Dublin Institute of Technology, Zurich Insurance and the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel where the awards will be held on the evening of Thursday, June 6th.
