Fáilte Ireland have come on board as partners of the prestigious UCI Gran Fondo World Series to be held in Sligo on the 29th and 30th of June 2024.

This is in line with its strategic priority of driving the regional distribution of tourism across the country.

The team is working with the organisers to leverage the event to attract incremental business for Sligo and the Northwest by tapping into the global cycling fraternity’s hunger to participate in world class events around the globe.

The UCI Granfondo World Series is a series of UCI-sanctioned cycling events held all over the world.

The Gran Fondo Ireland is a highly energetic public cycling event attended by pros, recreational cyclists, and weekend warriors. The event incorporates timed overall routes, fantastic rest stops, closed roads and route support mechanics to help cyclists throughout.

The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is set to captivate Sligo, marking a significant milestone for cycling enthusiasts and the local community.

Through working with TITAN Experience, Fáilte Ireland hopes to showcase Sligo’s stunning landscapes on a global stage and drive accommodation, attraction and food and beverage bookings from those travelling from all over the world to discover the beauty and hospitality of Sligo on the 10-year anniversary of the Wild Atlantic Way.

“We are delighted to be working with the team at TITAN Experience and exploring how we can leverage the fact that a world class cycling event coming to the area can drive new business to Sligo and the wider Northwest,” said Martin Donnelly, Business Development Manager with Fáilte Ireland.

“Together with TITAN Experience and Sligo County Council, we aim to elevate the event experience, welcoming participants from thirteen different countries already, including Britain and as far away as Dubai, all of whom will discover the beauty and hospitality of Sligo.”

“We would very much hope that by putting our best foot forward, we will see those participants return time and again to explore the Northwest of the Wild Atlantic Way.”

“We are absolutely thrilled about this partnership with Fáilte Ireland,” added Eoin Conroy, CEO of Titan Experience.

“Sligo and the Northwest of Ireland has everything you could wish for in terms of building a wider National and International Festival of Cycling with The Gran Fondo at the heart of it.”

“Open to cyclists of all abilities, Fáilte Ireland coming on board at this critical point of the journey is a fantastic endorsement of what we are building here in partnership with Sligo County Council.”

“The interest from the cycling community has been incredible,” said Event Director, Michael Hurl.

“To date 176 clubs across 13 countries are represented. We know that working with Fáilte Ireland to ensure that the economic benefit of this event coming to Sligo is maximised, is yet another significant milestone for the event, the region and a testament to the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders.”
