Mark English is the latest Irish Athlete to secure a qualifying time for the Paris Olympic Games, taking 0.02 off his own national 800m record with a superb 1:44.70 at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland on Tuesday evening.
The Finn Valley athlete, who finished second behind Andreas Kramer of Sweden, also secured the Olympic qualifying standard.
English was joined in Finland by several of his teammates from the recent European Championships in Rome.
There was an Irish 1-2 in the men’s 1500m, with Cathal Doyle winning in 3:34.09, his second personal best in four days. UCD’s Luke McCann crossed in second in 3:34.32.
Sarah Lavin ran a huge race in her second run of the evening, clocking her fastest run of the season with a 12.66 in the final of the 60m hurdles.
Thomas Barr was in action over hurdles earlier in the schedule, posting a 49.46 (4th) as he continues to climb the Olympic qualification standings.
Leevale’s Louise Shanahan was 10th in the 800m in a season’s best of 2:02.59.
