PwC regained the LGFA Interfirms Cup title at the GAA’s National Games Development Centre at the Sport Ireland Campus on Saturday.
Winners two years ago, PwC returned to the winners’ podium impressively as they won all seven of their fixtures on the day.
They stormed through the group phase, claiming five wins from five before accounting for 2023 runners-up Boston Scientific by 6-6 to 1-4 at the semi-final stage.
That victory set up a final against the Irish Defence Forces, who were 4-10 to 1-2 semi-final winners against Moate Community School.
PwC were impressive once again in the final, and with inter-county stars Niamh Hetherton (Dublin) and Aoibhín Cleary (Meath) playing key roles, they scored a 2-9 to 3-3 victory.
Cleary, who accepted the silverware from LGFA President-Elect Trina Murray, said, “It was a great day out. Everything was really well run and well organised.”
“It was brilliant to get an opportunity to play with other girls in the firm from different counties and also to play against other girls in other firms from counties that you would recognise playing.”
“In work, we’re a big firm, so we don’t get to see each other that often. It was great to get out, spend the day together, and play together.”
Dublin’s Jodi Egan, Laois pair Aimee Kelly and Aoife Kirrane, and Cleary’s Meath colleague Aoife Farrell were other well-known faces on the successful PwC outfit.
Shield honours on the day went to H&MV Engineering, which overcame the Irish Prison Service by 1-7 to 2-3 in a closely fought game.
H&MV Engineering were captained by Jenny Irwin from the Thurles Sarsfields club in Tipperary.
Eleven teams, including defending champions AIB, competed in the competitive section of the Interfirms blitz, while 12 teams were present for the recreational blitz.
It is a tournament and a day out that has real potential to expand in future years.
The Sport for Business Membership comprises nearly 300 organisations, including all the leading sports and sponsors, as well as commercial and state agencies.
