Tennis Ireland has confirmed that Italian born Peter Buldorini will now compete under the Irish flag on the ATP Tour.
The 20 year old was born in Recanti in Italy but his mother hails from Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim, and this allows him represent Ireland in international competition.
He becomes one of seven Irish male players on the Tour with Michael Agni the highest ranked, currently at 430, Buldorini in second ranked 801, Oscar O’Hoisin, Conor Gannon, Ammar Elamin, Freddy Murray and Cian Maguire ranked between 1,282 and 2,064.
“We have been working on this with Peter, the ITF, and the ATP over the last few months, and I’m delighted to get it over the line,” said Tennis Ireland’s National Performance Development Director, Cian Blake.
“I have been very impressed by Peter’s professionalism and application to date and look forward to him competing under the Irish flag for many years to come.”
“The opportunity to represent Ireland on the ATP Tour is something I am very much looking forward to,” added Buldorini.
”I would like to thank Tennis Ireland for making it possible. I’m excited to work hard and represent Ireland to the best of my ability. I can’t wait to get started.”
