Congratulations to Senator Evanne Ní Chuilinn who has been appointed as the Fine Gael Spokesperson in the Seanad on Arts, Media, Culture, Communications and Sport.

The former RTÉ broadcaster and so much more was appointed to the Seanad earlier this year.

Sinn Féin’s Dáil spokesperson on the same brief is Joanna Byrne, Chair of Drogheda United in addition to being an elected representative. Senator Nikki Bradley is another new member of the Oireachtas that has a deep understanding of sport.

It is appropriate for the week that is in it that we have two female politicians watching the brief being managed at Government by Patrick O’Donovan of Fine Gael and Charlie McConalogue of Fianna Fáil.

Next to look out for will be the formation of the Oireachtas Committee shadowing the work of the Department, a group chaired in the last Oireachtas by Niamh Smyth.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

We are at our strongest in society when we have a diverse leadership group and that is what is forming around the Sports brief in the 37th Dáil.  Great to see that the level of understanding will be higher than it has ever been.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

We will be tracking the ways in which sport continues to draw an ever greater level of attention in politics.
