Each weekend, we select performances from Irish sports that deserve recognition. This weekend we highlight action in Gaelic Games, Horse Racing, Gymnastics, Boxing and sporting history.

This week’s Champions of the Weekend is brought to you by AIG, one of Sport for Business’s key partners and a supporter of our Annual 50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport.

Amsterdam GAA Club

It is made up of players from across Ireland living in Amsterdam. On Saturday, they made history by becoming the first club from Continental Europe to win a Leinster Junior Hurling Championship final, beating Longford Slashers by 0-15 to 0-14.

GAA History

RTÉ’s Sunday Miscellany marked the 105th anniversary of Bloody Sunday with evocative pieces from Michael Foley and Colin Regan, among others.

Gymnastics Ireland

This weekend saw the first-ever GymSTART Floor and Vault Teams Competition, and a return of the JumpSTART Competition at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Dublin. With 1,300+ gymnasts and 3,400 spectators, it was an incredible weekend of gymnastics and camaraderie between the gymnasts themselves.

National Hunt Racing

It looked like a potential race of the year in advance and lived up to the billing when Gaelic Warrior held off a late charge from stablemate Fact To File to win a thrilling John Durkan Chase at Punchestown on Sunday.  The top two are both trained by Willie Mullins, while Sunday’s field also contained 2025 Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin, and 2024 Grand National winner I Am Maximus.

Irish Boxing

Louis Rooney, Ryan Jenkins, Tadhg O’Donnell and Sean Mackey Trant made it a clean sweep for Irish boxers on the opening weekend of the European U23 Championship in Budapest.
