The nominees for RTÉ Sport Team of the Year have been announced, featuring champions across seven different sporting codes.

The winners will be announced on Saturday, 20 December, live on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 8.05 pm.

Joanne Cantwell, Darragh Maloney and David Gillick will steer us through a year to remember in front of a live audience of Irish sports stars.

The eight women and four men nominated for the RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year were named on Friday, and the nominees for Manager of the Year and Young Sportsperson of the Year will follow this week.

RTÉ SPORT SPORT TEAM OF THE YEAR 2025 NOMINEES

Athlone Town Women’s Team – Double Winners

The team achieved a historic “double” by winning both the league and the cup, and also had an extended run in European competition.

Dublin LGFA – All-Ireland and Leinster Football Champions 

Dublin won their seventh All-Ireland senior title, defeating Meath in the final with a score of 2-16 to 0-10. They also secured the Leinster Championship title, beating Meath 2-13 to 1-12 in the final.

Galway Camogie – All-Ireland Camogie Champions 

Galway defeated Cork in a brilliant final on August 10, 2025, by 1-14 to 1-13, claiming their fifth-ever All-Ireland senior title.

Katie-George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly – Double World Gold Champions

The reigning RTÉ Sport Team of the Year won two gold medals at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Ronse, Belgium.

Kerry Football – League Munster and All-Ireland Football Champions 

Kerry football achieved a major clean sweep by winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), the National Football League (NFL) Division 1 title, and the Munster Senior Football Championship

Shamrock Rovers – Double Winners – League and Cup Champions 

Shamrock Rovers secured their 22nd top-flight title and their fifth in the last six seasons. They won their 26th FAI Cup title by defeating Cork City 2-0 in the final on November 9, 2025, which completed the historic “double” (winning both major domestic competitions in the same season) for the first time since 1987

Tipperary Hurling  – All Ireland Hurling Champions 

Won the All Ireland hurling title coming from a difficult season the year before. Went through Munster [3rd], then beat Galway, Kilkenny and Cork for a triumph that was unexpected at the start of the year, everywhere bar Tipperary.
